It won’t be long before Metro Vancouverites will be able to pay for public transit on the fly using debit cards. The project’s hardware vendor, Cubic Transportation Systems, recently announced their involvement.
As an occasional rider I’m looking forward to no longer having to monitor balances and load my Compass card. But setting my simple laziness aside, removing even a tiny bit of friction from the transaction process can have an outsized impact on ridership.
And Translink could definitely use the boost. COVID has really thrown transit revenue under the bus. #translink #publictransit #debitcards
