Visa has recently announced that they now have more than 700 tap-to-pay transit projects at various levels of deployment. And that they’ve been keeping a close eye on contactless transaction volume for the 450+ projects that have already been completed. The data shows that ridership is beginning to rebound.
We’re still nowhere near pre-COVID rates but according to Visa, some regions have seen as much as a 100% ridership increase since the market bottomed out. And where the tech has been made available, contactless transactions now hold an 80% share of payment volume.
Contactless usage may not maintain the same level of growth in all industries as we move out of the pandemic but the public transit vertical should remain a major profit center. #contactlesspayments #transitprojects #growthstrategy
